I love Carlsbad, one of its most amazing places is the So. Carlsbad Torrey Pines on Highway 1 near North Ponto and So. Carlsbad State Beach. The trees offer a unique stand of Torrey Pines that provide a magnificent silhouette for a sunset. I enjoy being in its presence, allowing me to bring the forest to the sea at sunset, with dramatic colors. "Torrey Pines Sunset" is is a 3' x 6 ' oil on canvas painted in February 2022.
This table was constructed using a 150 year old piece of old growth mahogany that served as the charting surface for a four station navigation area in a square rigged schooner built in So. America in the 1800's. While the three cabinetry stations were intact, It served as a studio drawing surface in three studios of mine, over 50 years. I decided to cut the 2' x 11' top in half and make into a table (now 68" long; 46" wide and 31" tall). The legs are cast aluminum and it has a custom aluminum frame that connects the table's substrate frame of maple to the mahogany. The channel aluminum has an ebonized oak piece for decorative value.
